Goonies never say Die!
The Goonies was filmed all over Astoria, and you can see the locations of the movie all over town.
Fun Fact – Astoria is an old port town and is the oldest city in the state of Oregon; WHAT?!?! Yep, it is true! I love learning history.
The history of Astoria is pretty impressive.. Anywho… It has that old town charm right located off the Columbia River, where it meets the Pacific Ocean.
Being in my 40’s, I grew up watching the Goonies, and we watched it over and over again. Now my kids watch it, and we visit Astoria every couple of years because it still is one of the greatest movies of all time.
Goonie house – Address: 732 Duane St, Astoria, OR 97103
Data’s house – right next door
Oregon Film Museum – Also the goonies jailhouse. 732 Duane Street
Flavel House Museum – located across from the museum.
The Goonies Fratelli’s 1984 Jeep Cherokee – with bullet holes – Located at the OFM. It is an excellent place for more photos.
Mouths house – 32 Skyline Ave. Astoria, Or. 97103
Port of Astoria’s East Mooring Basin. – Right by the water, you can see the docks from the Goonie house. I threw this in there because it is a fun place to visit and has hundreds of seals ready to bark at you 🙂
Astoria Coffee Co.
Haystack Rock – located in Cannon Beach, Oregon- this is about an hour south of Astoria. It is a ways away.
Ecola State Park is the park where they filmed the kids riding bikes through the forest. It is right next to Cannon Beach.
We always like going to Astoria and stopping by the Goonies house. You can visit the house again. You must park on the road and walk up the driveway. They also have a donation box so that you can leave a tip. It was actually closed off and tarped up a couple of years ago because visitors were not respectful of the property, so please be respectful. I would go midday and make it quick.
After we left, we hit up the Oregon Film Museum, and that was a blast. It is a little museum of all the movies filmed in Oregon and has some fun props to take photos with. They also have a cute visitors’ store with some fun souvenirs.
St. Helens, Oregon, is where Disney’s Halloweentown movies were filmed and is one of our family’s favorite traditions! The movies were filmed in this cute little town off the Columbia River and ever since, St Helen’s transforms their downtown to ‘Halloweentown’ every October. We love checking out the decorated town and seeing Bennie and the gang! They usually have entertainment every weekend and special events, and sometimes cast members show up too; we have personally even met a few of them. If you want to dress up, this is also encouraged. I will warn you; it is usually raining, so make sure you bring a raincoat or umbrella.
What to expect if you want to go this year
If you’re going to go this year 2020, you will need tickets on the weekends if you plan on coming into the plaza where the Big Pumpkin and other activities happen. Tickets are limited, and you will not be able to enter without one due to Covid-19 restrictions. Check out the website for more details https://spiritofhalloweentown.com/
Weekdays – Parking is free and available throughout town. The main parking lot is closed.
Weekends – On weekends, the parking lot opens at 9:45 a.m. and remains open until 9 p.m., and you must have a ticket to enter “Spirit of Halloweentown.”The main paid parking lot off Plymouth Street is open, and you may not park in residential neighborhoods or roadsides. Parking is included in Spirit of Halloween General Admission tickets for adults. Pets: Certified service animals are welcome any day.
Right near Halloweentown, there is a cute BIG pumpkin patch called the ‘Punkin Patch’ located on Sauvie Island. There is so much to do there, and you can literally spend all day there. It is like the Disneyland of Pumpkin patches. Here is the website link for the updated 2020 information.
