We took the Ferry from Anacortes to San Juan Island. This last-minute adventure for the first time when my daughters were 8 & 10 years old! Their first time on the Ferry was such a fantastic experience for them; they loved it! We did not know what to expect, but seeing whales jumping and playing in the Salish Sea was not something we expected. Whale Watching on San Juan Island became up. our focus So when we arriving we booked a Whale watching trip for the next day!
Friday Harbor is located on the east side of San Juan Island. You are downtown Friday Harbor when you get off the Ferry. We usually stay at the Earthbox Inn. It is about a mile away from the Ferry, and it is the ideal location to get to anywhere on the island. It is also a perfect location to get to the boats if you want to take a whale-watching tour of San Juan island.
If you want to go whale watching or check out the local Orcas residents, San Juan Island is an excellent place to do it. There are land locations, but if you can pull it off, I highly recommend a boat or Kayak tour! I favor Western Price for the tour; it is the one the girls and I took. The crew was great and made the experience even better. The history of the and the vast knowledge of the whales, orcas, and the resident orcas pods made the experience.
The one I took my kids on was the Western Prince!

One of my favorite places on San Juan Island is Reuben Tarte, County Park. I like going here at sunrise; there are not many people there if any, and it is an excellent and peaceful place with plenty of views for potential sightings.
If you want to go camping and maybe get a chance to see some whales or Orcas, grab your tent and go camping at San Juan County Park on the other side of the island.

Check out Eagle bay; Eagle Cove has excellent views. It is a hike to get to the water, but it is a pretty easy hike. According to locals, it is also an amazing place to swim and paddleboard. I have not tried either, but on the next trip, I am taking my paddleboard!
Cattle Point has great views and a beautiful lighthouse, I am a sucker for lighthouses though. It is one of those classic-looking lighthouses that are perfectly instagramable. Cattle Point has that coastal Pacific Northwest vibe and is really easy to get too and it is just a stunning place to hang out. It needs to be on your bucket list because for the views alone it is worth it. It is an easy walk to the water and there are plenty of areas to spread out and enjoy the views or different places including the Olympics. If you are lucky, you might see some whales and some sea lions.
