Impressed by the Haystack Rock in Canon beach? Well, it’s small-time compared to the one in Pacific City. They are actually both called Haystack on the Oregon coast, and people may assume the one on Canon beach is larger because it is closer, but the one in Pacific city is higher by over 100 feet. It just sits out in the water further, and so it may look smaller? Pacific City is my ultimate favorite beach on the Oregon Coast hands down.
There are a couple of restaurants and a couple of small shops, but really this beach town isn’t just about attracting tourists for shopping; it is about mother nature and some beautiful views. You have everything you need, including a grocery store that is a 5 min drive away. If you do like shopping, there is a thrift store if that is your thing? I am not a typical souvenir gal, so when I came back with an oar as a souvenir, my husband was like, what the hell is that? Yeah, but I love it hangs in my office to this day, LOL!
In Pacific City you have the big daddy of haystack rocks, a huge sand mountain that kids of all ages like to slide down and some of the most beautiful views in the world. The Oregon coast is so unique and that is why I am in love the landscape! When you trek up the sand mountains, you get the most gorgeous views of caves and cliffs with crashing waves. It is work to climb these mountains, but it is worth it!
I LOVE the Oregon coast because of the beautiful natural landscape! I like just being in nature, and it is a perfect beach hang out. There are plenty of waves for surfing and bodyboarding, but even in the summer, the water can be pretty cold, so you may need a bodysuit if you’re going in the ocean.
When we stay there, we love staying at Cape Kiwanda RV Park. We went a few years without a trailer and stayed in the cabins at the RV park. Just a heads up, though, these spaces are a little tight, so be warned. What I feel is most appealing at this part, though, is the proximity to the beach. You are on the sand in 5 minutes and in the water in 10 minutes.
There are some nice trails and paths to walk along the water too.
It is very sandy and stunning. When you’re on the beach and looking north, you can see a huge sandy hill, and usually, people are sliding down it like they are snowboarding. If you climb the hill toward the water, you will come across some of the most epic views you will ever see. You’re standing on a cliff above the ocean. If you go at the right time and the waves are crashing, they can be crashing over your head, and it is quite the view. It is my favorite part about Pacific City.
You can also get some pretty epic views of the Haystack rock there as well, and it is a perfect place for photographs. I have seen a few brides climbing that hill in their dresses.
The sand is very fine, so I like wearing my Lacross neoprene boots and surf pants to climb the hill. It is usually pretty cool there in general and especially up there, so you will be just fine and comfortable up there in boots and pants…

There is so much to do on the Oregon Coast!
The City of Tillamook is located close to Pacific City, and it is worth the short drive. It is about 20 miles north of Pacific City. There you can visit the Tillamook Creamery and take a tour. They have a factory tour, and they have a huge restaurant where you can sample all kinds of cheese and ice cream made right there in the factory. They have a small grocery store to which you can stock up on daily to take home.
